“The purpose and object of the corporation shall be … to promote the ideal of Rationalism, which may be defined as the mental attitude which accepts the supremacy of reason and aims at establishing a system of philosophy and ethics consistent with intellectual honesty, verifiable by experience and experiment, and independent of all arbitrary assumptions of authority; to encourage a rational approach to human problems; to provide a constructive alternative to the supernatural view of life; to cultivate the highest moral and intellectual standards; to promote the maximum use of science for human welfare; to encourage an interest in the physical and natural sciences; to defend freedom of thought and civil liberties; to promote our secular democratic system and the ideal of separation of state from church and religion; to create a fellowship and promote the welfare of its members and those who agree with its purposes; to publish books, pamphlets, periodicals, conduct forums, lectures, broadcasts, classes, courses, conferences, meetings, campaigns by all means of communication; …. “
